As essential septic systems are to our everyday life, the process to install or replace a new septic system in Rhode Island can seem overwhelming. However, at Solitro Property Solutions we take care of every step along the way. The steps for installing a new septic system or also known as Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems (OWTS) in Rhode Island is outlined below:
Soil Evaluation/Perc Test (New Construction) - The first step in installing a new septic system is determining the site suitability. During this stage it is important to locate boundaries, utilities, and any constraints to then determine locations for soil testing. We then work with a licensed soil evaluator to submit a Soil Testing Application Form to DEM, who may elect to witness or not to witness the evaluation. After approval from DEM, we arrive onsite with an excavator and soil evaluator to dig multiple test holes which are evaluated by the a licensed soil professional. A Soil Evaluation Form is then submitted to DEM which provides DEM with information about the site’s suitability for an OWTS.
Design Septic System - With the results from the soil evaluation, a septic system can be designed by a licensed engineer. The soil evaluation determines if the design process falls under a conventional septic system or an advanced treatment septic system. Once the design is completed an OWTS Application is submitted to DEM to obtain DEM’s approval of a septic system design.
Excavation - Based on the engineer plans, we excavate and perform the necessary site work to install your new septic system.
Septic System Installation - Once the area is prepared and the necessary inspections are conducted, we install your new septic system! Placing your septic tank is crucial to the success of your septic system. We use advanced heavy equipment to ensure precise placement and installation of your system. Once installed, backfilling and grading take place to ensure for proper drainage. Different types of sands, gravel and stone will be installed and vary site to site based on conditions
Final Inspection - Once construction of the system, the designer must certify to DEM that the system was installed in accordance with the engineered design and meets DEM OWTS rules. After DEM receives the certification that the system was installed properly, the application process is complete! DEM will issue a Certificate of Conformance and the system may then be used.
